The earliest decorations on trees connected to Christmas
appear to have been the apples and cookies hung on the PARADISE TREE
in the medieval dramas about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. There
are also accounts of this Paradise tree being hung with wafers symbolizing
the host in the ceremony of the mass.
